Criminal Justice Reform
The United States Criminal Justice System incarcerates its citizens more than any other country. It is a system marred by vast racial disparities and unfairly punishes communities of color, burdens taxpayers and is detrimental to building and maintaining strong communities. Mass incarceration disproportionately impacts the poor and people of color and does not make our communities safer.
West End POWER believes ending mass incarceration is one of the most important issues of our time. Because our country spends so much on prisons and jails, not enough funding is left for public health, education, and job development. We challenge excessive punishment in court, provide re-entry support, and advance systemic reform through education and narrative work for those with colorful past.
We are using our voices and advocacy to help end the era of mass incarceration, to root out racial discrimination in the system, and to ensure humane treatment of those with colorful past.
